IGP Approves Special Promotion For Victorious Female Boxer

After making the Nigerian Police proud by winning the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) International Super Bantamweight title belt at East Sussex, London, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has approved the immediate promotion of Police Constable, Mary Yetunde Aina.

 

Receiving the junior police officer in his office at Force headquarters in company of the Force Management Team and the Force Sports Officer, DCP Patrick Atayero, Baba also directed that cash reward be given to Aina for being the first Nigerian and African Female boxer to achieve the feat.

 

The elated police boss commended the bravery, gallantry and steadfastness of Aina popularly called ‘Iron Abbey’, saying the outstanding performance of the Policewoman has earned her a special promotion to the next rank of Corporal.

 

He said “The immense contributions of the Nigeria Police Force to sports development in Nigeria cannot be over-emphasized. PC Aina has joined the long list of police officers who have distinguished themselves in the area of sports.

 

“I, therefore, urge all members of the Force to take advantage of the several sports championships organized by this administration to develop their skills and leverage on it to propel themselves onto the world stage.”

 

The IGP also extended a monetary reward to her coach, Inspector Augustine Okporu.
