The police in Zamfara State have arrested one of the boys of a cattle rustling kingpin called Bello Turji in an operation at their hideout near Gummi town in Zamfara State, the spokesman of the command, SP Muhammad Shehu, has disclosed.
He said the arrest of the bandit, identified as Abdullahi Umar alias Sangamere, was sequel to a report received by the police on the abduction of a 60-year-old woman identified as Hajiya Inno of Gambanda Magero area in Gummi LGA by suspected armed bandits on March 21, 2022.
“Police operatives commenced an extensive search and rescue operation that led to the arrest of eight suspects including one of the commanders of the notorious bandit, Bello Turji, in connection with the case.
“The suspects, including their collaborators, have been terrorising Gummi town and its environs. They are currently in Police custody undergoing discreet investigation aimed at apprehending other gang members in order to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
During the operation, Sangamere was said to have matcheted the finger of one of the police operatives.
The police were said to have succeeded in disarming the criminal in the course of which he was neutralised.
SP Muhammad Shehu said the rescued victim had since been reunited with her family after medical checks and debriefing.
In the same vein, the police operatives have foiled attacks on Kwaren Ganuwa and Nasarawar Maifara communities in Tsafe LGA of the state. During the operation one bandit was neutralised, two AK47 rifles and a motorbike were recovered.
“The command, under the leadership of CP Ayuba N. Elkanah, is calling on members of the public to acknowledge the effort of the police and other security agencies in combating crime in the state and continue to pray for the sustenance of peace and tranquillity in Zamfara State and Nigeria as a whole,” Shehu added.
