The Katsina Command of the Nigeria Police Friday neutralized one bandit and recovered 50 rustled cows belonging to one Alhaji Ibrahim Maikudi of Gago village, Dutsinma LGA.

Addressing newsmen at the command’s headquarters, the police public relations officer in the state, SP Gambo Isah, said the incident happened at about 1am when a distress call was received that terrorists numbering about 40 attacked the village and rustled cows.

He said the Area Commander in charge of Dutsinma led a team of policemen to the area, engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled the terrorists neutralising one of them.

He said the operational strategy and gallantry displayed by the team made the terrorists to abandon “their heinous mission and fled the scene,” adding that in the course of scanning the scene, one AK47 rifle with five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and all the fifty (50) rustled cows were recovered.

He added that many terrorists escaped the scene with gun shots wounds, saying search parties were still combing the area with a view to arresting the fleeing terrorists.

In another development, the police in Katsina have rescued 15 victims of human trafficking at Baraji Quarters, Daura LGA, who were being conveyed to Niger Republic, and possibly from there to Libya.

SP Isah said nemesis caught up with the syndicate when they were accosted around 3.30am yesterday and upon sighting the police, the driver abandoned the victims and took to his heels.

He said the victims, eight females and seven males, were lured from the southern part of the country with fake promises of greener pasture in Libya, saying such victims usually ended up becoming enslaved.

He said the team succeeded and recovered the abandoned vehicle – Golf III Wagon, adding that effort was ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
