At least nine persons have been reported killed, following a terror attack on Geidam town, in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State on Wednesday night.
The insurgents were said to have attacked local pubs in the area, shooting sporadically and killing the victims, who were said to be vendors.
“While the troops of Operation Hadin Kai came through Garin Banza to repel the insurgents’ invasion, the Boko Haram members hid their motorcycles, then razed a government technical school to divert the attention of the troops.
“They first ordered the victims to lay down, then slaughtered some of them, while they tied others with their hands behind their backs and shot them on the head. Other heads were cut off and placed on their chest”, a source said.
Chairman of Geidam LGA, Ali Kolo, who confirmed the incident to newsmen through a phone inquiry, said the insurgents killed and also invaded some parts of the council, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
Kolo, who said he was in Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj, added that he received a distress call on the renewed attack, even as he said, details on casualties are still sketchy.
He said: “Based on the information at my disposal, Boko Haram has so far killed, invaded Gaidam and razed down some structures including Technical College, while I am in Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj.
