Hajia Laure Mai-Kunu, the aged mother of the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kano Central Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, was on Monday kidnapped by gunmen.
She was abducted at her residence in the early hours of Monday before the Muslims’ call to prayert.
Kano Police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident.
He said the Commissioner of Police has ordered a manhunt for the rescue of the abductee and arrest of the abductors.
Appealing for calm, he assured the aged woman would be rescued unhurt.
“The incident happened around 2am on Monday (today).
“The Command has since mobilised its personnel with a view to rescuing the victim and arresting the culprits,” Kiyawa said, adding he will update The Nation soon after his findings from the commissioner of police.
Chairman of Ungogo Local Government, Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat, also confirmed the incident to newsmen.
He said security agents have officially informed him of the abduction of Zaura’s mother, which he described as “most unfortunate.”
“Hajia Laure was kidnapped at her residence in Zaura village of Rangaza Ward, Ungogo local government area of Kano state,” Ramat said.
He wrote on his official Facebook wall: “Innalillahi wa inna’ilaihirraj’un. We just woke up to a sad news that unknown gunmen stormed Ungogo local government area early this morning and whisked the mother of AA Zaura away to an unknown place. Allah ka kubutar mana da Baba Laure (May Allah rescue the mother).”
