Bandits Hit Plateau Communities, Kill Scores Of People

At least five people have been killed and hundreds of cattle rustled in two separate attacks in Shegyam and Dogon Ruwa communities in Wase Local Government Area (LGAs) of Plateau State, Northcentral Nigeria.

It was learned that the attacks were carried out in the early hours of Wednesday by criminal gangs known locally as bandits.

The gunmen first attacked Shegyam where the terrorists killed two persons and later proceeded to Dogon Ruwa, killing three other persons and rustling hundreds of cattle.

Police have confirmed the incident.

Plateau state shares a border with Kaduna state, currently a haven for bandits.

According to the Wisconsin-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), bandits killed more than 2,600 civilians in 2021, an increase of over 250% from 2020. This number dwarfs that of civilian deaths credited to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the same year.
