IGP Tasks PPROs On Capacity Building

The Inspsector-General of Police,  Mr.  Alkali Baba Usman has encouraged Police Public Relation Officers (PPROs) across the country to endeavour  in building their capacity through continuous training and re-training in the areas of  operations, investigations, and forensics, so as to keep faith with international best practices in image-making of the Force.

 

The Police Boss who spoke through Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mr.  Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko during the 2nd Batch of a three-day fully residential intensive capacity building workshop for PPROs on Strategic Communication,  said the police spokepersons should ensure pokice-public partnership through skilled communications that project the image of the Police in good light.

 

He spoke on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of the workshop at Tahir Guest Palace,  Kano.

 

According  to him,  “the 3-days fully residential intensive capacity building workshop would also amongst other things impact Police Spokespersons positively, particularly in the areas of Police – Public partnership and Communication drives to improve criminal investigations, capacity building, community policing concept, and effective service delivery.

 

” However, participants of this workshop must be reminded that, to succeed as Police image makers, they must be versatile and have deep theoretical and practical knowledge of all aspects of Policing, covering administration, operations, investigations, and forensics, amongst others.

 

” Therefore the quest to continuously seek for knowledge is necessary and its one of the integral objective of the workshop.”

 

He urged the participants  to take advantage of the workshop to interact and communicate with one another, share ideas, and expand their communication skills, especially in responding to topical issues relating to security and public safety as and when due.

 

He promised that the Nigeria Police will continue to remain committed to training, re-training and human capacity development to meet the demands the society.

“To achieve this, we will continue to partner with our important stakeholders like the UNDP, Civil Liberty Organizations, especially CLEEN Foundation, etc. to achieve the vision and mission statements of the Inspector General of Police,” he added.

 

The IGP reminded the Police Image-Makers that the workshop centered on understanding the road map to Police reform.

 

He further pointed out that,  “without mincing words, Police Spokespersons play vital roles in managing information related to crime and criminality, and in ensuring that the public is kept abreast of required information that will ensure public safety, peace and stability.  Hence, there is need to equip Police Public Relations Officers with dynamic strategic communication skills.

 

” The workshop will avail the participants with skills and expertise in communication.  It will also enable participants to acquire advance relevant skills to give appropriate response to enquiries from both the public and the media on the reform agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The workshop with the theme: “Strategic Communication” was organized by the Presidential Committee on Police Reforms in partnership with UNDP and CLEEN Foundation.

 

Experienced and professional resource persons were engaged to tutor the police spokepersons on effective service delivery.
