Unidentified gunmen have ambushed and killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The police officer, whose name could not be ascertained, was reportedly killed by the assailants while returning from work on Wednesday.
The victim was said to have died at an undisclosed hospital where he was rushed to for a medical attention.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the killing.
Iringe-Koko said the state Commissioner for Police, Friday Eboka, ordered full investigations into the incident.
She said: “He was returning to his house after work around 9 pm or so when they ambush him. We will ensure they are fished out.
“Already the commissioner of police has ordered a full scale investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and brought to book.”
