Seven Abducted Enugu Traders Finally Regain Freedom

Seven traders kidnapped at Nrobo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State have regained freedom after their captors collected N500,000 from the affected families.

The victims were kidnapped on Wednesday evening with their abductors demanding N30,000,000 ransom.

They later settled for N500,000 on Friday after all efforts showed that the families could not raise more than that.

The taxi conveying the abductees was coming from Nsukka to Abbi through Nrobo community when the occupants were waylaid at a bushy bypass by gunmen, forcing them down from the vehicle before they were taken away into the forest.

A member of the affected family, who pleaded for anonymity, said that a female victim is receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Enugu.

A community leader in the area, who pleaded anonymity, accused some youths in the village of collaborating with criminal elements from outside the area to abduct the people for ransom.

He lamented that the road where the incident happened had become the flashpoint for robbery, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in recent times.

He recalled that in the past few months, no fewer than 12 persons had also been abducted along the same road with ransoms paid on each of the captives.

According to him, it was at the same point that a teenage girl coming back from Nrobo to Nsukka was equally raped to death at the same axis.

The community leader called for more collaborative efforts between the Neighbourhood Watch groups and other security agents to nip criminal activities in the council area in the bud.
