Man Found Dead Two Days After Being Allegedly Kidnapped In Anambra

A young man identified simply as Ifeanyi, who was allegedly abducted in Okpuno, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra, has been found dead.

The victim, an indigene of Awgu community in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, was said to be abducted two days to Christmas by some suspected kidnappers.

According to a source, the body of the abducted man was found dumped by the roadside on Christmas Day in Awka, the state capital.

“He was kidnapped on Friday on Geneva Hotel road. I don’t know the exact point where his lifeless body was found, but it was found by the roadside,” the source said.

“If such a barbaric outing can take place in the capital city of the state, without any intelligence as regards hunting the perpetrators of this crime down, then I can confidently tell you that no person is safe down there,” the source added.

Confirming the incident, spokesman of the State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that it was not a kidnap case.

“It is a pure case of murder and is still under investigation. We urge the witnesses where the dead body was found to volunteer information that will support the ongoing investigation,” he stated.

“Preliminary information shows that it could be cult-related as there were marks of axe cuts on the deceased body. Meanwhile, the body has been recovered and deposited in the morgue,” Ikenga added.

Meanwhile, a friend of the deceased, Ebuka Okoye, who posted his photograph on his Facebook wall decried growing insecurity in the state.

“One death too many!!! This sweet soul was kidnapped in the heart of the state capital on Friday, and just yesterday evening, his lifeless body was seen by the roadside,” he wrote.

“If such a barbaric outing can take place in the capital city of the state, without any intelligence as regards hunting the perpetrators of this crime down, then I can confidently tell you that no person is safe down there.”

Also, one Naeche Okoye who described the deceased as his younger brother, said: “Ifeanyi my junior brother continue resting in peace till we meet to part no more Amen… Awgbu Ebenese lost one of his honest son, very painful.”
