The police in Ogun State have deployed officers to secure offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and other strategic locations around the state to forestall any post-election violence.
Police said this was done to forestall any act of breakdown of law and order following the outcome of the elections.
INEC had on Wednesday declared the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu as the winner of Saturday’s presidential election, which opposition parties are kicking against.

But, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba, who led his men on patrol on Wednesday, warned residents against any planned protest, saying the police would not condone any act that could breach the peace.
Mba disclosed that the command had deployed operatives to INEC offices, banks and other hotspots to prevent the breakdown of law and order.
“This is to send a strong message to hostile elements that this state and the security forces within the state will not tolerate any attempt to break the laws or to cause any kind of breakdown of law and order within the state.
“We are paying very close attention to the banks, we are paying very close attention to INEC facilities and other critical public infrastructure.
“We are also paying very close attention to areas that we consider as hotspots and making sure we take measures to deescalate very timely any attempt to cause any breach of the peace of the state,” Mba said, urging Nigerians to be peaceful and law-abiding in their activities.
