Imo CP Directs Orderly Trial Of Inspector, Others Over Citizens’ Assault

Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde, has directed that an Inspector of Police, Sunday Amadi, and five other officers should promptly face orderly trial for allegedly assaulting some civilians with cutlass in the state. They were caught in a viral video.

Also, the CP has ordered a diligent manhunt for the gunmen who killed five officers and a couple at Opkala Junction at the weekend. The slain cops were eating in a canteen when the hoodlums suddenly invaded there, shot them, and carted away their guns.

The Police spokesperson in the state, Henry Okoye, in a statement, yesterday, confirmed the directives.

On the officers directed to face orderly trial, Okoye said: “While the investigation continues, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde PSC (+), who is a disciplinarian and defender of fundamental human rights has ordered that prompt Orderly Room Trial should commence against the erring officers and that necessary disciplinary actions be taken if found guilty.

“Members of the public are advised to remain calm as further development on the orderly room trial and disciplinary actions will be communicated back to them.”

He continued: “Upon diligent observation of this viral obscene video, the officers were identified to be a detachment of one of the command’s tactical teams comprising of six police officers led by Inspector Sunday Amadi, who unfortunately was seen in the video assaulting the suspects with a cutlass which is not one of Police accouterment while trying to apprehend them recently.

The police spokesperson confirmed the killing of five officers and a couple, disclosing that the command has marshalled out a tactical and operational squad to dominate the entire security space of the state with the sole aim of arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act and bringing them to face the full wrath of the law.

“Well-meaning residents of the state are encouraged to join hands with the Police and other security agency in the state in the fight against terrorism. Security is everybody’s business. If you see something say something. Report any suspicious activity or person seen in the vicinity to the nearest Police Station or call our emergency lines 0803773600 or 08098880197,” he stated.
