Police Apprehend 7 Over Cultism, Murder In Edo

The Edo Police Command has arrested seven suspects for alleged involvement in cultism and murder in the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, addressing newsmen on Thursday in Benin, the state capital identified the suspects as Okechukwu Samuel, Omoruyi Friday, Osayande Ogbomwan, Adodo Etiosa, Ogbeifun Destiny, Atohan Osazuwa and Enohiese Nelson.

Nwabuzor said officers of the Divisional Police Office in Aduwawa conducted a raid on black spots at Upper Mission Extension.

The operation, which followed cult killings, led to the arrest of the suspects in RX 330 SUV with registration number BEN 899 NC.

During a search, one laptop and a cutlass were recovered. The suspects confessed to being members of Black Axe, who were involved in the recent cult fights.

The police spokesperson disclosed that others were arrested at Okhunmwun community by the police and vigilantes.

“Upon a search, [from] a bag belonging to Ogbomwan, two locally made pistols and six live cartridges were recovered,” Nwabuzor said.

Ogbomwan, according to the police, confessed that he and other members of the group killed one Gideon Ojeaga in Iguosa community.

The suspects, however, presented a different story.
Speaking with journalists, Atohan Osazuwa denied being a member of any confraternity, saying they were arrested on their way home.

“They took us to the station. When they searched our bag, they found a laptop and a cutlass, which my friend is using to work on his building site. We are not cultists, and we didn’t kill anyone,” the suspect insisted.
