Notorious gun runner arrested, seven fabricated arms, ammunition recovered along Sokoto-Gusau highway

Security operatives in Tureta, Zamfara State, arrested a notorious arms dealer, Murtala Abubakar, 45, on May 4 during a stop-and-search operation along the Sokoto-Gusau highway, acting on credible intelligence.

Abubakar, a resident of Maradun Local Government Area, was found with a cache of illegal weapons, including four fabricated rifles, three fabricated pistols, 16 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and three rounds of G3 ammunition.

Zagazola Makama reports that the suspect and the seized arms have been handed over to the State Police Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Sokoto for further investigation.

Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto are among the states in northwestern Nigeria where insecurity has taken a firm hold.

However, during a working visit to Katsina State last week, President Bola Tinubu promised to tackle the problem and reclaim areas reportedly under the control of bandits in Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, and Borno States.
