Troops Foil Kidnap Attempt in Taraba State

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, have thwarted a kidnapping attempt along the Takum-Jalingo road.

In a statement issued out on Sunday by the Acting Brigade spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the success was made possible following a distress call from road users.

“Acting on a distress call from road users, the security operatives swiftly mobilized to Muji Town, where armed kidnappers had ambushed an 18-seater Toyota bus.

“Upon arrival, the troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, using superior firepower that forced the assailants to abandon their captives and flee into the forest,” Olubodunde said.

Two individuals, identified as Mr. Yakubu Usman from Angwan Abuja in Takum and Mr. Godwin Peter from Angwan Dadin Kowa, according to him, were rescued.

“Mr. Peter sustained injuries during the attack and was promptly taken to a medical facility for treatment.

“Meanwhile, the remaining passengers were able to continue their journey safely”, the statement added.
The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to securing Taraba State and urged the public to provide timely and credible information to aid security efforts against criminal activities.
