Boko Haram kills 7 mourners in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram terrorist have killed 7 mourners and injured several others in Kopl village, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Chairman of Chibok Local Government, Modu Mustapha, confirmed the attack, stating that it occurred around 6 pm on Monday, April 28, 2025.

The attack happened just hours after passengers, including women and children, were killed along the Rann-Gamboru Ngala Road in Kala Balge LGA of the state.

He said the insurgents stormed the area on the final day of mourning their loved ones and opened fire on them.

“They gathered for the funeral prayer when insurgents descended on them. We evacuated many who sustained bullet wounds to Mubi General Hospital in nearby Adamawa State.

“The number of deaths may be higher than seven, as some people escaped into the bush with bullet wounds. Search and rescue operations are ongoing to assist those in the bush,” he said.

Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) has consistently condemned the attacks, describing the situation as beyond human imagination.

He said, “Yesterday (Sunday), I received a distress call that over 10 members of vigilante groups were killed in a community between Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State and Garkida town in Adamawa State,” he said.

“My people are suffering severe casualties with no confrontation. In the last month, over 100 people have been killed in several coordinated attacks in Sabon Gari, Izge, Kirawa, Pulka, Damboa, Chibok, Askira Uba, and many other areas.”
