The Lagos State Taskforce has apprehended two suspects for allegedly using commercial motorcycles, commonly known as Okada, to traffic illicit drugs across various parts of the metropolis.
The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Soji Inawole and Mufu Shobo, who is currently on the run, were said to have been transporting substances such as Colorado, Indian hemp, and other narcotics.
Officers recovered a stash of drugs, a pair of scissors, and other prohibited items concealed inside a school bag during the operation.
The arrests were carried out during a coordinated enforcement exercise along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ijaiye Bus Stop, and Agbado Railway Station Road, as part of the taskforce’s ongoing campaign to eliminate criminal activities in the state.
The chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, stated that the operation forms part of a broader strategy aimed at restoring public order and enforcing the state’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality.
“This operation reflects our zero-tolerance policy against illegal activities that compromise the security of our communities. The suspects will face the full weight of the law as investigations continue,” Akerele said in a statement released by the taskforce.
Further investigations uncovered that several Okada riders were working in tandem with drug dealers, transporting narcotics between brothels and other identified hotspots across Lagos.
During the enforcement operation, multiple motorcycles implicated in the illicit trade were impounded for breaching traffic regulations and aiding criminal activities.
CSP Adetayo Akerele emphasised the importance of public vigilance, urging residents to actively participate in the taskforce’s ‘See Something, Say Something’ campaign.
“We call on all Lagosians to support our efforts. Community vigilance is crucial in helping us maintain a safe and secure environment,” he said.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspect, Soji Inawole, has been charged in court, while efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
