CP Disu Unveils Public Complaints Response Unit Building In Port Harcourt

..To Tackle Issues On Human Rights Abuses

In a bid to ensure that activities of the police officers are reported and documented by the members of the public, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu on Thursday unveiled the Public Complaints Response unit building of the Nigeria Police .

The building is located inside the premises of the State Police headquarters, Moscow road, Port Harcourt and will address issues on human rights abuse in the state.

Speaking during the event, the Rivers State Commissioner for Police, Tunji Disu stated that the building started long time ago by visionary Police officers before him.

CP Disu said “for one reason or the other it was stalled. When I came, I saw the need to continue the project. I discussed with the PCRC Chairman. We need to support PCRC they are doing a lot for us. The Chairman of PCRC, Rivers State was following me up seriously on the project. Rivers PCRC stands out as the best in all the State PCRC I have come cross as a Police officer.

“CRU Centre will be a centre for members of the public to complain about activities of Police officers. If they feel unsatisfied about activity of any Police officer they can make complaint Any complaint you make here goes to force Headquarters Abuja and the rest comes to us. We are going to collaborate with the community more, without them we cannot succeed. We are committed to providing better service. We will work better for this state to ensure a lot of people feel us.

“With this as example, a lot of support will come to us any where we go to”.

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Chairman in Rivers State, Mr Voke Emore in his remark said “We as PCRC, our responsibility is to bring the community closer to the Police. As PCRC we supported the project. We appreciate what CP Disu is doing. He is gallant, exceptional Police force .That is why we have achieved so much as a command.

“The project is important to both the Police and community. The project shows we are concerned about public complaints too. We reassure the CP of our firm commitment in supporting the Police Command in the state.

KC Mac Anthony one of the sponsors of the project said “the Police caught my attention before disbandment of SARS. When my phone was robbed at gunpoint, I rushed out and saw a Jetta car with four Police officers inside the vehicle.

‘They asked me to come with the pack of the phone. I brought the pack to them. A month later, I was called to take my phone. I also saw the suspects who snatched my phone at gunpoint. They told they caught the end user at Garrison, the seller at Garrison said is one Alhaji who sold it to him, from the Alhaji the main suspect was arrested.

“Because of the issue, I picked interest in Nigeria Police Force. No support rendered to Nigeria Police Force is too much. Whatever we do to support the Police is not enough. Support and encourage them”.

Dr Henry Wordu another sponsor of the project in his remarks urged members of the public to contribute their quota by giving back to the society as their is no other country than Nigeria.

Highpoint of the event was cutting of the ribbon by the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, signifying the commissioning of the building.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police Operation, DCP Olubenga Adepoju, Deputy Commissioner of Police Finance and Administration, DCP Samuel Erale, Assistant Commissioner of Police Administration And Finance, ACP Ereju Barisua, His Royal Majesty Joseph Alagoa, Rivers Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, PCRC members, other Police Officers were all in attendance.
