Police arrest suspected killer of FUNAAB student

The Lagos State Police Command now has custody of one Adeleye Ayomide, who is accused of killing a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in Ogun State, Idowu Christiana.

The police received the 23-year-old from the Nigerian Army on Thursday.

This was confirmed by the command’s PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, on his X handle.

“23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to #LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade #HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. Investigation is ongoing,” Hundeyin wrote.

Christiana was abducted along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos State, on Monday, August 19, 2024.

The abductors initially demanded N3 million as ransom, before they could release the student.

However, after much pleas, they accepted N350,000, but refused to free the kidnapped student.

The suspect who is under interrogation by the police, has been linked to the suspicious 2021 death of his sister and alleged to have been involved in the death of his girlfriend who died in 2018 in a similar manner.

An anonymous TikTok source, who claimed to be associated with the victims, alleged that evidence pointing to the suspect’s  involvement in Christianah’s murder raised doubts about the circumstances of his sister and girlfriend’s death.

While the official cause of his sister and girlfriend’s death was previously unclear, the new claims suggested that the suspect might have been involved. The revelation has cast a shadow over the ongoing investigation and has led to calls for a deeper probe into his past.

Authorities are now under pressure to thoroughly investigate the fresh allegations and determine if there could be more victims connected to the suspect.
