In the early hours of New Year’s Eve, a potential disaster turned into a heartwarming story, thanks to the vigilance of the FCT Police Command.
At around 5:00 AM, along Apo Dutse Road in Abuja, officers of the Scorpion Squad, led by ASP Momoh, intercepted a gray Toyota Corolla with registration number KWL 738 BB. The vehicle’s lone occupant aroused suspicion with his nervous demeanour, prompting officers to flag him down.
The situation escalated when the driver abandoned the car and fled into the nearby bushes. Demonstrating quick thinking, the officers immediately secured the vehicle and conducted a digital verification of its ownership.
The car was traced to Mr. Kaseem Mustapha, who was contacted at his residence, unaware that his vehicle had been stolen overnight.
Upon arrival at the scene, Mr. Mustapha was overwhelmed with relief and gratitude as he saw his car safely recovered. “I can’t believe it! Thank you so much!” he exclaimed, embracing the officers who had turned what could have been a devastating incident into a cause for celebration.
Witnesses and friends of Mr. Mustapha gathered to applaud the officers’ swift response. Adding a humorous note, the police even recovered a pair of slippers left behind by the fleeing suspect during the chase.
In response to the incident, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, praised the officers for their exemplary work and took the opportunity to advise residents on enhancing vehicle security.
“Installing security gadgets can go a long way in aiding police efforts and preventing thefts,” he stated, encouraging vigilance as a proactive measure.
With all formalities completed, the vehicle was returned to Mustapha, marking a joyful end to the year for him and a testament to the effectiveness of community policing.
