Killings in Plateau State: Police Made High-Profile Arrests

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned in the strongest terms the killings in Plateau State, as he made a high-profile arrest in connection to the Plateau killings.

This firm stance was communicated in a statement released by the Force Headquarters on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, following the IGP’s visit to the crisis-ridden state the previous day.

During his visit to Plateau State, the IGP expressed deep sorrow over the tragic and repeated loss of lives resulting from violent attacks, particularly in Bokkos Local Government Area, where fresh violence has left dozens dead and many others displaced.

The police chief lamented the deteriorating security in Plateau, stating that the continuous killings in Plateau State not only devastate affected communities but also pose a significant threat to Nigeria’s collective peace, unity, and progress.

In a strong response, the IGP has ordered the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to personally coordinate all police activities within Plateau State.

“After a comprehensive assessment of the security situation, I have directed a special deployment of tactical units and surveillance resources to high-risk zones in the state,” IGP Egbetokun declared.

Confirming progress in investigations, the Nigeria Police Force revealed that two high-profile suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent killings in Plateau State, particularly in Bokkos LGA. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and providing critical intelligence that may lead to the capture of other perpetrators.

“The Nigeria Police Force is diligently working to uncover the motives behind these attacks, identify additional suspects, and dismantle any networks fueling violence in the state,” the statement read.

To aid the investigation and strengthen coordination, DIG Kwazhi Yakubu has launched aerial surveillance operations over volatile areas including Bokkos and Bassa, while also holding meetings with community leaders and local stakeholders to rebuild trust and promote cooperation.

As a key part of security reinforcement efforts, the Inspector-General has ordered the immediate deployment of more officers, patrol teams, and operational assets to Plateau State.

These units will focus on rapid response, intelligence gathering, and ensuring the presence of law enforcement in areas vulnerable to attacks. The Police also confirmed that on-the-ground assessments are ongoing to determine the best strategy for resource deployment.

Egbetokun assured citizens that the Police Force remains resolute in restoring peace and will leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators of the killings in Plateau State to justice.

“We are taking decisive steps to ensure no further blood is shed. The people of Plateau State deserve peace, and we will do all it takes to safeguard their lives and property,” he said.

In his message to residents, the IGP called for calm and urged citizens to support ongoing efforts by security agencies by providing timely and credible information. He reiterated that the Police cannot succeed alone and emphasized the importance of community policing in achieving long-term peace.

“The Inspector-General of Police extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and stands in solidarity with the people of Plateau State during this painful period,” the statement added.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding law and order and assured that the cycle of violence will be broken through sustained law enforcement actions and community collaboration.
