Police Nab Three Suspected IPOB Members, Recover ₦‎10.3 Million In Imo

Barely few days after launching a joint security operation, the Imo State Police Command has arrested three suspects, recovered arms including one AK-47 and physical cash of N1.3 million after raiding criminal hideouts at Cameron Street, Ubahu in Okigwe LGA.

A statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, hinted that the operation was carried out by operatives of Tactical Team in synergy with local vigilante groups, following an intelligence reports.

Okoye stated that the hoodlums, on sighting the operatives, opened fire, resulting in a gun battle during which three suspects were arrested. The arrested hoodlums were identified as Onyekaba Ikenna Innocent, 21, Ugwu Ikenna, 31, and Ofor Kasarachi, 37.


Two others reportedly escaped into the surrounding bushes.

Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 riffle, two pump-action guns, eighteen live cartridges, mobile devices, laptops, and N10.3 million in cash.

Okoye alleged that investigations revealed that the money was contributed by IPOB members to finance terrorism.

“With Easter approaching, the Command assures Imo residents of robust security across the state. In collaboration with sister agencies, patrols, surveillance, and checkpoints have been intensified to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration,” he added.

The police spokesman advised residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via 0803 477 3600.
