The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has called for sustained government support to address funding, infrastructure and welfare needs of the Nigeria Police Force, including concerns affecting serving and retired personnel.
Disu made the appeal on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during a visit to the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, His Excellency, Senator (Dr) Ibrahim Gaidam, CON, where both officials discussed operational priorities, personnel welfare and infrastructure development.
The IGP thanked the Minister for his continued support and sought further intervention in infrastructure, housing and funding to strengthen the Force's operational capacity. He also highlighted pension and welfare concerns affecting serving and retired personnel, calling for sustained engagement towards lasting solutions.
Disu further briefed the Minister on preparations for the 2027 General Elections, including ongoing personnel training and measures to address the security needs of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. He noted that continued institutional support would strengthen the Force's readiness to discharge its election-security responsibilities.
Responding, Gaidam described the visit as timely, commended the IGP's efforts and reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to supporting the operational development and reform priorities of the Police. He stressed the importance of intelligence-led policing and highlighted interventions aimed at improving police infrastructure and personnel welfare, particularly pension and insurance arrangements.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, welcomed the IGP and his delegation and assured them of the Ministry's continued administrative support. He noted that closer collaboration would help identify priority needs, strengthen service delivery and build public confidence in the Police.
The engagement reaffirmed the importance of sustained cooperation between the Ministry and the Nigeria Police Force in improving personnel welfare, strengthening operational capacity and safeguarding lives and property across the country.
