The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a ban on the use of tinted glasses in vehicles, except for factory-fitted windows and those with valid medical exemptions.
This directive, issued by Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu, aims to curb the rising cases of “one chance” operations and other criminal activities in the FCT.
The ban is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety and security of FCT residents.
Disu emphasised that tinted glasses have contributed to a surge in lawlessness, citing instances where rescued kidnap victims reported being unable to alert others to their distress due to tinted windows.
To avoid penalties, vehicle owners with tinted windows are advised to remove the tints immediately. Failure to comply will result in the impoundment of non-compliant vehicles by the police.
Since the establishment of the command’s special tactical team, 296 vehicles have been impounded for various infractions, including the use of tinted windows, driving with only one license plate, and the use of concealed or defaced number plates.
