Soldier Arrested With 214 Rounds Of Ammunition In Kaduna

A 25-year-old soldier, Private Yahaya Yunusa, has been arrested by military authorities in Jaji, located in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, for allegedly attempting to smuggle a significant quantity of ammunition.

According to an operational report seen on Sunday, the arrest occurred around 11:55 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025.

Yunusa, who serves with the 197 Special Forces Battalion based in Zamfara State, was caught in possession of 214 rounds of various types of linked and unlinked ammunition.


Items recovered from him included 50 rounds of 12.7×108mm, 69 rounds of 7.62×54mmR linked, 35 rounds of unlinked 7.62×54mmR, and 60 rounds of 5.56×45mm.

His military ID card and multiple ATM cards—belonging to Opay, Unity Bank, Access Bank, and First Bank—were also seized during the arrest.

An official familiar with the case confirmed that during initial questioning, Yunusa admitted he collected the ammunition during previous combat operations.

He also stated he had served as an operator of the Anti-Aircraft (AA) machine gun mounted on a military vehicle.

The report noted: “About 11:55hrs of April 18, 2025, one Yahaya Yunusa, a 25-year-old military Private (PTE), was apprehended in Jaji, Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State. The suspect said he is a member of the 197 Special Forces Battalion, Zamfara State.”

Military authorities have launched a full investigation into the matter, as concerns grow over internal threats to national security.
