Police Officer Stabs Two To Death After Resisting Arrest

The Police Command in Bauchi State has arrested a 29 years old police officer for allegedly stabbing two people to death and injuring one another

 

Lukman Madaki, a Police Corporal of Toro Division attached to the Sports Office of the command’s headquarters, allegedly stabbed two members of the Peace and Security Committee to death.

 

It was gathered that the erring officer was accosted at a black spot around Rafin Zurfin by members of the police team on patrol in the area.

 

Tragedy, however, struck aas Lukman drew a Jackknife and stabbed the victims in his bid to avoid arrest.

 

Unfortunately, the deceased victims, Abdulmalik Mohammed and Sadiq, who were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi were certified dead by doctors while the injured victim, Nazifi Mohammed, is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

 

The incident resulted in palpable tension in Yelwa, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.

 

Some youths who besieged Yelwa Police Station protesting the death of Mohammed and Sadiq.

 

The angry youths were seen pelting policemen at the station while the police shot into the air to disperse them.

The youths also used disused tyres to make bonfires on the road.

 

A statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Umar Mamman Sanda, had ordered investigation and sanction of the erring operative.

 

The statement reads in part: “On 24/03/2022 at about 2230hrs, a patrol team attached to E’ Division while on visibility patrol around a black spot at Rafin surfing Yelwa arrested F/no. 519342 PC Lukman Madaki 29yrs of Toro Division attached to Sports Office, Bauchi State Police Command Headquarters.

 

“In a bid to resist arrest, PC Lukman employed the use of Jackknife, stabbed and injured the following members of the Peace and Security committee attached to the patrol team.

 

“The victims were rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital Bauchi for treatment where Abdulmalik Mohammed and Sadiq were certified dead by a medical doctor, while Nazifi Mohammed, the third victim, is currently responding to treatment.

 

“The suspect has since been arrested and detained while investigation has commenced in earnest.

 

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police commiserates with the families of the deceased and the people of Bauchi State over the unfortunate incident.

 

“He has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter and appealed for calm while urging members of the public not to take the law into their hands as the outcome of the investigation will be made public.”
