Ex-Police Spokesperson, AIG Awunah, Dies After Brief Illness

..As IG Mourns 

Former spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, John Awunah, has been confirmed dead.

 

Awunah, who is the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of ZONE 16, Yenogoa, Bayelsa State died on Monday morning.

 

“Yes, we lost him,” the current spokesman of the police, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi said via a text message.

 

 

Adejobi in a statement noted that IGP Usman Alkali Baba is mourning the officer.

 

According to Adejobi, “the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, on behalf of the Force Management team, and Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, regrets to announce the demise of an eminent communicator, ardent officer, and Member of the National Institute, AIG Donald Ngorngor Awunah, which occurred in the early hours of today, Monday, May 23, 2022, at Garki Hospital Abuja, after a brief illness.

 

“AIG Awunah, who hailed from Benue State, was a one-time spokesperson for the Force, and was until his death the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16 Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on March 15, 1988, and was a dedicated officer with great passion for training and development and was at a time the Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos.

 

“The Inspector-General of Police, acknowledges his resourcefulness and commitment to duty. He hereby condoles with the immediate family, relatives, fellow course mates, and friends of the deceased AIG who passed away in active service of his fatherland and prays for the repose of his soul.”

 

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, mourns the demise of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, and former spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, AIG Donald Awunah, who died in the early hours of Monday, May 23, 2022, at Garki Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness.

 

Speaking about late Awunah’s strides as a veteran, in a statement, the IGP said the police regret to announce the demise of the communicator.

 

He said, “On behalf of the Force Management team, and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, we regret to announce the demise of an eminent communicator, ardent officer, and Member of the National Institute, AIG Awunah, who hailed from Benue State.

 

“He was a one-time spokesperson for the Force, and was until his death the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16 Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 15th March, 1988, and was a dedicated officer with great passion for training and development and was at a time the Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos.”
