Suspected Herdsmen Storm Edo, Kill One, Injure Others

Suspected herdsmen have killed a driver identified as Ome Osesa and injured others in Sobe community in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The attack was the seventh attack on the community with five people killed, including a pastor and his two workers.

A source in the community, who confirmed the incident, said the herdsmen invaded the deceased’s house on Monday evening, March 27, and opened fire on him and others.

“The herdsmen invaded the community, killing Osesa in his house and injuring many others. The herdsmen later left Omesa’s house and moved closer to St. Thomas Moore Primary School where they also kidnapped some persons. The rate of killing by herdsmen in Sobe community in Owan West Local Government has become too many,” the source said.

Another resident regretted that the people did not get timely help during and after the attacks.

He noted that the new police divisional headquarters created in the community has not stopped the attacks on the community.

“We call on Governor Godwin Obaseki as the chief security officer of the state, to liaise with the Federal Government so that a mini barracks can be created in the community before the community turns into a graveyard,” the resident added.

Meanwhile, angry youths of the community on Tuesday morning, March 28, blocked Benin-Akure expressway to protest over the incessant attacks and killings.
