‘He Made An Attempt To Kill Me’, Seun Kuti Opens Up On Police Assault

Nigerian afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has opened up following a viral video of the singer assaulting a Nigerian police officer.

 

Recall that the singer in a viral video that surfaced on social media on Saturday was captured slapping a yet-to-be-identified policeman on a busy Lagos road.

In reaction to the hideous video, Nigerians called for the arrest of the singer, saying he had no right to lay hands on the policeman.

 

Taking to his Instagram stories, some moments ago, the singer disclosed that the policeman tried to kill his family and himself hence the reason he pounced on the officer.

He further maintained that he has proof of his claims and will not press charges.

 

He further warned those calling for his arrest to mind their business.

 

He said: “He tried to kill me and my family, I have proof, but I no dey chase clout and I agreed not to press charges. Make una mind una business make the poor guy no loose e job.”

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the arrest of Afrobeat star Seun Kuti who was captured on video assaulting a police officer.

This was disclosed in a statement by Force spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform,” the late Saturday statement read.

According to him, the incident will also be investigated.

“The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly,” he added.

“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.”

Also, Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has reacted to the recent physical assault on a policeman by afrobeat artist, Seun Kuti.

Reacting to the incident via his Twitter handle on Saturday, the police spokesperson described it as “unbelievable”.

Quoting a tweet of a concerned citizen who called his attention to the matter, Adejobi said such situations happen for people to learn lessons.

He promised to release an official statement on the issue soon.

He wrote, “Seun’s Attack: The NPF will speak to this incident very soon. It’s unbelievable, but such happens for people to learn lessons. We shall be back.”
