Police Arrest Nine Suspected Criminals In Enugu, Recover Three Guns, 19 Ammunition

Operatives of the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force said have arrested nine suspected criminals from various locations of the state.

The operatives said three firearms, 19 ammunition among other exhibits were recovered sequel to the arrests.

Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Enugu command disclosed in a statement made available to Daily Independent.

Ndukwe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the operatives of the command serving in the anti-cultism squad, while acting on credible information in respect of an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, malicious damage, threatening violence and cult activities, on June 9, 2023 at about 4.48am, arrested one Maduabuchi Agbougwu, a 29 year-old man, Mbah Anayochukwu aged 28, Mbah Ifesinachi aged 26, Anike Ebuka aged 31 and Mbah Chiagozie aged 28 who also male.

Ndukwe said the search warrant executed in their living houses led to the recovery of one big locally fabricated revolver gun, another locally fabricated double barrel pistol, eight live cartridges and one expended cartridge from Maduabuchi Agbougwu, while weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered all the suspects, adding that further discreet investigation into the case was ongoing.

Similarly, he said that working with law-abiding citizens, police operatives serving in Ogui Police Division of Enugu state Command, on June 6, 2023 at about 3.0pm, arrested two male suspects, Anasonye Somtochukwu aged 20 and Ogodo Chigbogu aged 21 who were suspected to engage in criminal activities.

He said one locally fabricated pistol and the tricycle they were operating in were recovered.

“A discreet investigation into the case is underway.”

The Police image maker also disclosed that June 08, 2023, operatives of No. 3 PMF Enugu, while on routine stop and search duty at Ugwuoba, along Old Enugu/Onitsha Highway, intercepted a commercial bus en-route Enugu.

He said after a thorough search on the vehicle and its occupants, eleven live cartridges and a black-coloured criminal hood were recovered from two of the occupants and brothers, “namely Jacob Gabriel aged 26 and Gideon Gabriel 24, both of Kogi State. “They were consequently arrested, while further discreet investigation is ongoing.”

He said the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani, has lauded the efforts of the operatives and those who supported them in recording these operational breakthroughs.

He charged them and others to remain focused and on top of their games, while soliciting continued citizens’ cooperation and support through the provision of credible information and intelligence.
