The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed reports that items recovered from criminals, which were stolen from the Rivers State syringe factory and kept in their custody are missing.
The state Ministry of Health had petitioned the state Police Command over their alleged inability to account for the exhibits recovered from the criminals.
Officers of Zone 16, Bayelsa State carried out the arrest, along the Emohua area of the East-West Road.
In his reaction, the state Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Polycarp-Emeka assured that the exhibits are intact, adding that the Command under his watch will not record any missing exhibits needed to prosecute any matter.
CP Polycarp-Emeka said all the exhibits to prosecute the alleged vandals of the Rivers State Syringe factory at Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor LGA have been moved to the state Criminal Investigation Department and will be handed over in due time.
‘‘I want to repeat, exhibits can never be missing. Do exhibits have wings to fly and if they don’t fly, exhibits cannot go missing in my Command.
‘‘I want to let you understand that, I got the information and we’ve tracked to find out that those exhibits are intact, that is the most important thing.
‘‘It could be a mix-up or a break in communication. But, those exhibits are intact and present, perhaps with the State CID.
‘‘In due course, when the court requires the exhibit to be brought up, we will definitely do that. But for you to say that the items are missing, it’s a misrepresentation and of course, such cannot happen in my watch.’’
The CP also paraded some arrested suspects and announced the rescue of some kidnapped victims.
Items recovered from the suspected criminals include; cars, arms and ammunition.
He said Operatives of the Command, invaded and raided some camps of cultists in Ahoada West and East local governments, where three ‘‘Generals’’ terrorizing the area escaped through the river but recovered items from the camps.
CP Polycarp-Emeka maintained that curbing crime in society is a collective effort.
The CP also explained how operatives of the Rumuji Division on a tip-off by patrol teams in the company of Emohua Vigilante Service, stormed a forest by Choba Bridge along the East-West Road to rescue a kidnap victim who is a resident of Rumuosi in Obio-Akpor LGA, while his car is yet to be recovered.
