Rivers CP Orders Manhunt For Abductors Of Journalist Priestba

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, has ordered a manhunt for the abductors of Mrs Priestba Anthony Nwokocha, the Director of News, Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation, RSBC (Radio Rivers).

She was abducted on Friday, July 21 by gunmen on her way home from work.

The marching order by CP Emeka to all tactical teams of the command is contained in a terse press statement by the Spokesperson for the Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko on Saturday night.

According to her, “CP has mandated tactical teams to ensure she regains her freedom and reunites with her family”.

Earlier, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, had raised an alarm over the kidnap of its member, Mrs Priestba Anthony Nwokocha, and called on security agencies to ensure her immediate rescue.

The Union said it was informed that Mrs Nwokocha was allegedly whisked away on Friday night by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

She was abducted at gunpoint at about 8:00 pm after close of work along Ogonigba/ Elelenwo bridge leading to the old Slaughter Market in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Stanley Job Stanley and Secretary, Ike Wigodo, NUJ condemned the alleged kidnap, describing it as inhuman, wicked and insensitive, especially against a Journalist working for the good of the society.

The statement, therefore, urged the security agencies in the State to ensure the immediate rescue of Mrs Nwokocha to enable her to reunite with her family and continue her service to society.

The Union also charged the security agencies to ensure the arrest of Nwokocha’s abductors and bring them to book to serve as a deterrent to other criminals in the state.

The statement commended the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi, for improving security in the State in the last three months and urged him not to relent in his efforts.
