Three Die, One Injured In Ogun Road Crash (See Photos)

At least 3 persons were confirmed dead, while another person sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident, which occurred on Tuesday along the ever-busy Sagamu- Benin Highway

The accident, which occurred around 06:45am before Babcock University junction in Ogun State, involved a Lexus car, registration number BDG 979 HD Blue in colour, which rammed into a Geon Truck with registration number LAR 730 XB, there causing another Toyota Sienna, nil registration arsh colour to collide with it.

Confirming the accidents, the Public Education Officer of the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters Eleweran Abeokuta, SP Omolola Odutola anipr psc, said three persons lost their lives.

 

“On the 15th of August 2023, the Divisional Police Officer, Ikenne division, SP Oladepo Oarinoye tried to rescue the occupants of a Lexus, a moving truck and a Toyota Sienna, but all occupants unfortunately were pronounced dead by doctor in Babcock University Teaching Hospital Ilishan Ogun State.

“Eye witness account narrated that at about 0645hrs,before Babcock University junction along Sagamu- Benin Highway, there was a fatal accident involving, a Geon Truck with registration number LAR 730 XB white colour driven by one Rasak Olayinka “m” of 82 Ilaye Street, I sale Oko Ofin Sagamu, Toyota Sienna, nil registratiom arsh colour, driven by one Kenechi Nwagu “m” of 16 Ngwuagba Obosi Anambra State, and a Lexus car, registration number BDG 979 HD Blue in colour, driven by one Sorunke Emmanuel “m” of 28 Mushin road Isolo Lagos. The fatal accident occurred when, the driver of the Lexus car driven by Emmanuel dove recklessly and crammed into the moving truck as a result the Lexus somalsulted, and the third vehicle which is the Sienna hit the the Lexus as well,trapping the Lexus and it’s occupants one Ademola Ayinla Timothy “26yrs was rescued and rushed to the hospital but did not make it. All affected and damaged vehicle have been evacuated and recovered to the Station.

“Reviewing accident cases in the state with reference, since June of 2023, there has been a surge on the number of accident cases on daily across the state not excluding motorcycles crashes,this is one out of them, and the impacts recorded are regrettably fatal.

“The major causes of these needless accidents are human error only few account happen on account of mechanical faults.

“Overspeeding on wet tarmac, influence driving, and phone engagement are some of the known human errors that constitute the large numbers, shocking to reveal that motorcycles riders, are culprits, they are dependent on alcohol influence, on ear piece and excessive speed on faulty rims and tyres.

The Commissioner of Police CP ALAMUTU ABIODUN MUSTAPHA psc, has been briefed, and he told motorist, drivers, and highway users, to exercise patience, and care, taking cognizance of other road users, to abstain from influence driving and excessive speed which can burst tryes leading to death.
