Police To Investigate Attack On Officer At Political Rally In Kogi

The Kogi Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha has ordered an investigation into an alleged attack on a police officer during a political clash in the Idah Local Government Area of the state.

The Police officer was seen in a pool of his own blood as a result of the political clash in the Idah area of Kogi state on Wednesday, October 18.

The Police officer who identified himself as ASP Samuel was accused of working with Governor Yahaya Bello’s appointee, Friday Makama, to attack and disrupt the campaign rally of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the November governorship election, Alhaji Muritala Ajaka.

In a statement issued by the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Ovye-Aya in Lokoja, he said the CP was worried over a trending video showing the police officer seriously injured.

Onuoha, who condemned the incident, ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to take the task and commence an immediate investigation into the clash.

The CP reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to continue to engage the critical stakeholders in Election Security Management to ensure a secure environment for the electoral process.

“This command is ever determined to provide a level playing ground for all political parties as they embark on campaigns, rallies, and processions, among others.

“But all would-be trouble makers who are hell-bent on causing violence to undermine the credibility of the electoral process in the state should stay away from such acts or face the wrath of the police.

“This is because we are in synergy with other security agencies in election security management and will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone caught disrupting the electoral process, ” the CP warned.
