Bandits have kidnapped Malam Sabiu, a director in the Zamfara State Ministry of Finance, along with his wife and two children.
The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday in Damba Housing Estate in Gusau, the state capital.
According to an eyewitness, a resident of the area, Auwalu Garba, the bandits broke into Sabiu’s house around 1:30 am.
He stated that the armed bandits brandished sophisticated weapons and went straight to Sabiu’s residence.
“When they arrived in our area, they did not fire any shots and did not enter into any house.
“They just went straight to Sabiu’s house where they broke the door, entered the bedroom and abducted him and his wife.
“They later moved to another room and abducted two children then moved away to the forest.”
Garba said the bandits released Sabiu’s wife due to health concerns after the abduction.
Efforts to obtain information from the police spokesperson in the state, Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful as he could not be reached on his mobile line.
Damba Housing Estate, situated in Gusau town, the Zamfara State capital, has been a recurrent target for bandit attacks in recent years.
The community has witnessed several incidents of kidnapping, prompting residents to relocate to safer areas out of fear.
In February 2022, the estate experienced a similar attack where terrorists abducted the wife and two children of another Director of Finance in the Zamfara State Ministry of Finance, Sirajo Hassan.
