Police Repel Bandits Attack On Benue Community, Kill 2

Police have repelled an attack by suspected militias on Tse Gaagum village in Ukemberegya council ward in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The police were reported to have shot dead two of the militias during the operation.

Sources said the militias stormed the village in the early hours of Wednesday and ransacked it.

The source said the villagers made a distress call to the security operatives who responded promptly and gave the bandits a hot pursuit.

According to the source, the bandits stormed the village at about 4:00am on Wednesday and forcefully took away motorcyles and other valuables.

“Luckily, a resident of the village made a call to policemen who raced to the area and succeeded in chasing them and in the process killed two of them and a Bajaaj motorcycle was recovered,” it added.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har, while confirming the incident to journalists in his office commended the security operatives for their prompt response to the distress call.

Har said, “I got the information that security men in Logo who received distress call from residents of Tse Gaagum village in the early hours of Wednesday shot dead two of the bandits who attacked the community.

“They succeeded in recovering a Bajaaj motorcycle belonging to one of the villagers.”

Efforts made to get further information from the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP. Catherine Anene, proved abortive.
