…Relatives Demand Justice
One Mr Uwem Okon, of Ikuiboku Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has been accused of raping a 17-year-old girl.
The victim, who was seeking an admission in University of Uyo after writing her JAMB,lived with the suspect’s children in the apartment where student live. The apartment was less student because the school was on strike, and some of the student has left three days prior to the incident.
On that fateful day, it was alleged that the suspect stylishly sent his children on an errand, and locked up the gate and the door and went straight to the victim’s room, where he raped her three times.
The suspect was aware that the victim’s loud noise won’t be heard by anyone because nobody was in the compound.
When he was challenged by the mother of the victim, the suspect claimed that he was trying to help the mother, insisting that she’s a bush woman.
He also threatened to send the victim packing from the apartment. In the process of trying to throw the victim’s belongings away, the suspect also attempted to rape her again before he was nabbed by the police, who were hidden somewhere around the compound.
The relatives of the victim have called the attention of the Akwa Ibom State government but nothing has been done to the case.
Sadly, the victim is said to be currently going through emotional and psylogical trauma as a result of the action.
Series of tests have been carried out on her in order to ensure that she’s not contracted any form of diseases. It was also confirmed that there was an element of penetration.
