As part of efforts aimed at providing succour to vulnerable members of the society affected by the current hardship in the country, former Chief of Staff to Lagos State Governor, Otunba Samuel Olukunle Ojo, has donated palliative packages, comprising food items and essential supplies to orphanages and charity organizations in Lagos.
The gesture comes on the heels of the cancellation of the birthday celebration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will be 72 years today but directed his friends and associates to direct such to giving palliatives and gifts to homes and orphanages of their choice.
It would be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, said the President will clock 72 on March 29, but announced that the President has advised his associates and well-wishers that intend to celebrate with him on that day to channel their birthday donation to charity organizations, just as he added that the President also banned any form of advertorial placement in newspaper, radio and television stations.
The reason given for the cancellation of the birthday greetings and merry making was because of the present mood of the nation and recent killing of the officers and men of the Army and Police in Delta State and recent spate of security breaches by criminal elements in. different parts of Nigeria.
Speaking on the motivation behind the donations, Baba Ojo as fondly called in a statement said: “With the effects of the hardship and current skyrocket prices of food items affecting various segments of society, low income households have been particularly hit as many have had their source of livelihoods disrupted.
“Hence the directive of the President and Commander in Chief, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, towards channeling all donations and gifts for his 72nd birthday to charity homes of their choice”, Ojo said.
According to the statement, some of the beneficiaries of the packages include SOS Children Village, Isolo, Lagos and several other motherless children homes in Lagos..
