7 Arrested By Police Over Cult-Related Killings In Edo

The operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested seven suspects over alleged involvement in cult-related killings in Auchi and its environs, in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that this was disclosed by the authorities of the command in its official X handle, formerly Twitter.

The command said that the suspects, who were members of Black Axe and Eiye groups were arrested by the operatives of South-Ibie Division and Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit.

It added that the arrest of the suspects was sequel to the breakout of violent attack between Aye, (Black Axe group) and Eiye secret cult confraternities on Thursday, 18 April, 2024 at South-Ibie, Etsako West Local Government.

The command explained that in the incident one Umoru was attacked and shot dead by some members of Eiye Cult group at Campus gate Auchi.

It stated that the killing prompted the operatives of the command in the locality to storm the scene and arrested seven cultists of black Axe group.

According to the statement, a young man, who is an Aye secret cult member received a phone call from his cult member who wanted to carry out an attack on the late Umoru, that he should leave immediately.

“He left the place and Umoru was attacked and shot dead. He was later arrested through a diligent investigation and confessed to the crime”, it said.

The command, also added that one Emmanuel Odiase, a member of Black Axe was killed in Auchi by members of Eiye cult group.

It further disclosed that a 43-year-old man identified as Braimoh Fulani was killed in his provision shop at campus area in Auchi by members of Ayes cult group.

It posited that the assailants came to his shop with unregistered Lexus 350 saloon car, golden colour.

The command said, with the timely information from members of the public, Police operatives mobilized and gave the suspects hot chase in collaboration with the vigilante group where they were arrested and their weapons recovered.

It said the suspects would be charged to court.

Items recovered from the suspects are cartridges and other dangerous items.
