Naira Notes Crisis: Army Allegedly Kills One Protester In Apata, Ibadan

Personnel of the Nigerian Army have reportedly shot one of the youths in Ibadan protesting the hardship occasioned by the new naira notes and persistent fuel scarcity.

Recall that the protesters in their hundreds, on Friday and Saturday blocked the Iwo Road Interchange, frontage of the State Secretariat at Agodi and other major roads in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

But the protest became more violent on Saturday, leading to a confrontation between the protesters and security agents in Apata area.

Details of the chaos are still unclear but an eyewitness said: “If you live at Apata and its axis, kindly stay in your house and warn people not to come to Apata now, there’s a serious protest going on and at least one person has been shot dead by the security operatives.”

Another source told the press: “Everyone ran for their lives; some lay on the floor to prevent stray bullets.”
